This program focuses on the responsibilities of a Safety Professional and reviews extensively both federal and state occupational safety and health standards a Safety Professionals needs to be familiar with. The program covers employee’s rights, employer’s responsibilities and hazard recognition with regards to occupational safety and health. Additionally, the Certified Safety and Health Official certificate of completion covers OSHA and Cal/OSHA policies and procedures followed by enforcements officers. The CSHO certificate of completion provides two clear and defined paths of study based on the participants area of interest. Program participants are required to select one of the two tracks available, Construction or General Industry Safety. Individuals seeking to obtain the CSHO certificate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience overseeing safety and meet the prerequisite requirements of OSHA 500 or 501.
Students who successfully complete the Certificate program will be able to:
To earn the Certified Safety and Health Official Certificate, participants must complete total of seven (7) required and two (2) elective courses.
To earn the CSHO Certificate, the individual will have to successfully complete eight required courses. At least four of the courses, including the final two, must be completed through the CSUDH OTI Education Center. All courses must be completed within a 5 year period. Courses taken through other official OSHA Training Institute Education Centers can be used to fulfill up to four courses required for the CSHO certificate of completion.
Supervisors, company owners, top and middle management, loss control representatives, workers compensation administrators, risk management personnel, safety managers and safety engineers that have a minimum of 5 years of experience overseeing safety and meet the prerequisite requirements of OSHA 500 or 501.

Courses are offered for continuing Education Units (CEUs). Nationally recognized standards govern attendance requirements to earn CEU credits. A permanent record is established and students may request CSU Dominguez Hills’ transcript either online or by calling the University Records office. Students not pursuing the certificate of completion may take individual courses.
